Alfons Garrido Escobar

PhD in History awarded by the University of Girona, and a diploma in Information and Documentation from the University of Vic. Documentalist for Documare: Documentation Centre for Fishing and the Sea, associated with the Fishing Museumin Palamós, and researcher for the Maritime Studies Chair and the Maritime Fishing, Social Studies Group (GESPM) at the UdG.

Specialized in the field of the history of fishing, and particularly in the institutions and management of maritime fishing in Catalonia. He has published various studies on the history of fishing and fishing institutions on the Costa Brava in medieval and modern times, including Historia de la Cofradía de Pescadores de Palamós (2004) and Las Ordenanzas de la Pesquera de Calonge (2010). He has also written papers on the field of ethnology and maritime heritage and fishing, particularly in relation to documentation and gastronomy.


He has participated in national and international research projects, including Patrimoni etnològic, societat i cultura marítima (PESCUM)(HAR2010-15566) and the History of Marine Animal Populations, which is part of the Census of Marine Life. He is also involved in projects and publications led by theFishingMuseum in Palamós.
