Saida Palou Rubio

PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology, awarded by the University of Barcelona (2011). She obtained the Agustí Duran i Sanpere History of Barcelona Award (2011) for her doctoral thesis, entitled Barcelona, destinació turística. Promoció pública, turismes, imatges i ciutat (1888–2010), published by Edicions Vitel•la in 2012.

Currently, she works at the University of Girona as a specialist in the Sector Campus Programme. Since 2010, she has taught as an adjunct lecturer at the Faculty of Tourism. In addition, as part of the Institute of Tourism Studies (INSETUR) and the Euro-Mediterranean Tourism and Water Campus (Campus e-MTA) at the University of Girona, she has managed and coordinated projects to transfer knowledge and promote research on tourism (2013-2014).

She is a member of the Editorial Board for the Catalan Institute of Anthropology’s (ICA) publications, and has coordinated the Jornades Destinació BCN. Història del turisme a la ciutat (BCN destination days. History of tourism in the city), organized by the Historical Archives of the City of Barcelona (AHCB) in 2014. She has also participated in a range of competitive and knowledge-transfer research projects. Her main research area is anthropology, history and tourism. She has published numerous works on these areas in Spain and internationally.

In the professional field, she has worked as a technician in the Office of the City of Barcelona Strategic Tourism Plan, a process of strategic reflection promoted by Turisme de Barcelona and Barcelona City Council during the two-year period 2008–2010.
